Shoppers browsing for bargains at the Pimlico Car Boot Sale on Sunday got an unexpected bonus when Reform UK’s Pimlico South and Pimlico North candidates for Westminster City Council rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in among the stalls, chatting with locals and listening to what really matters to people on the ground.
The candidates were met with enthusiasm from the moment they arrived, with residents eager to shake hands, share their concerns, and express their support. For many attendees, it was their first chance to meet the candidates face to face — and they made the most of it.
“This is what politics should look like,” said one stallholder. “They weren’t just handing out leaflets and rushing off — they actually stopped and listened.”
The mood throughout the morning was lively and positive, with conversations ranging from the Pimlico Underground Heating Proposal, hated by most residents, the cost of living and local crime to the state of the high street and Westminster’s eye-watering council tax bills. Reform’s candidates were happy to engage on all of it, drawing frequent nods of agreement from the crowd.
It was a far cry from the polished press events and stage-managed photo opportunities that Westminster residents have grown accustomed to from the established parties and from Reform MPs. Reform’s presence at the car boot sale was unscripted, unpretentious, and — judging by the response — exactly what local people have been waiting for. “They’re speaking our language,” remarked one regular attendee. “They’re talking about the things that actually affect us every day.”
With the Westminster City Council elections fast approaching, Reform UK is making clear that it intends to fight for every vote — one conversation at a time.
Reform UK is fielding candidates across Westminster ahead of the upcoming local council elections.
